Idori vs Remodel AI: which AI remodel app keeps your room yours?
Both apps take a photo of your room and hand back a redesign in seconds. That is where the similarity ends. One is a fast style machine that repaints the whole photo; the other is a studio that reads your room, changes only what you pin, and remembers every version. Here is the comparison, round by round, with the trade-offs in both directions.
Idori wins for anyone redesigning a room they will actually live in. It proposes directions with reasoning, changes only the spots you pin, takes a brief in any language, and keeps every result as a version you can Compare and Branch, on iPhone and iPad, with projects stored on your device. Remodel AI wins if you need Android or a desktop browser, or a one-tap flooring and wall-paint preview, and you are happy to re-roll until something looks right. Also worth knowing: there are two unrelated apps called Remodel AI. This post covers both.
Search "Remodel AI vs" and you will find a comparison against nearly every app in the category: RoomGPT, Interior AI, Homestyler, Planner 5D, Havenly, Decorilla. Every one of them is written by Remodel AI, and every one of them concludes that Remodel AI wins. That is not a scandal, it is marketing, but it does mean nobody has written the comparison from the other side. This one is written by Idori, and the same rule from our best AI interior design apps ranking applies: every claim below is something you can check on your own room in ten minutes, and where Remodel AI is the better pick, it says so.
First, which Remodel AI?
Two different companies ship an app under this name, and they are easy to confuse because they share a workflow and, on the App Store, a search result.
- Remodel AI on the App Store (developer REIMAGE AI, site remodelai.app) is the big one: a 4.7 rating from around fifteen thousand reviews on iPhone, over a million Android installs, and weekly, monthly, and yearly subscriptions. Its tools are interior and exterior remodel, landscaping, new flooring, new walls, a reskin tool, replace, remove, and a shopping link for what appears in the render.
- Remodel AI on the web (remodelai.io) is the one behind the content: more than a hundred and fifty blog posts, six "Remodel AI vs" articles, ten "alternatives" articles, and self-ranked "best app" lists. It runs in the browser with iPhone and Android apps that carry a much weaker rating, and it sells three free designs followed by a monthly plan.
Both are one-shot restylers at heart: upload a photo, pick from a menu of styles or tools, receive a new image, repeat. Everything that follows applies to both unless it says otherwise, and where their pricing or reviews differ, the post names which one it means.

Round 1: does it read your room, or just repaint it?
Remodel AI's opening move is a menu. Pick Modern, Scandinavian, Farmhouse, Japandi, and the whole photo is re-rendered in that style. It assumes you already know what your room needs, which is the one thing most people staring at a room that feels wrong do not know.
Idori's opening move is a read. AI Ideas analyzes the actual room in your photo, trained on real work from professional interior designers, and proposes five distinct directions with the reasoning behind each one: what to change and why it would improve this space. Warmer wood to soften the cold tile. A lower sofa to open the window. One large piece instead of six small frames. One tap visualizes any direction on your photo. Behind that simple interaction sit multiple model calls that analyze the space and ground each recommendation in it, a deliberately more expensive pipeline than the single generation Remodel AI runs. There are cheaper ways to build this. A meaningfully better answer is worth the inference cost.
Round to Idori. Neither Remodel AI proposes anything. A style menu is a starting point only if you already have one.
Round 2: does it change only what you asked?
This is the round that decides the comparison, and it is the one Remodel AI's own users have been describing for three years. In 2023 the most enthusiastic five-star review of the App Store Remodel AI ended with a request: to "hold" a specific feature like the reviewer's dark hardwood floors "and not have the AI change everything." The developer replied that they would love to add it. In 2025 a subscriber wrote that shading an area to landscape "would also add plants on our house, put windows in weird places," and that the app could not change the color of the house. Another described the paint tool's auto-select as "terrible" at picking a clean area like a kitchen island and the manual paintbrush crashing halfway through selecting the cabinets. In 2026 a reviewer noted the app now "keeps the structure of the rooms better than it used to" while the custom feature "keeps getting it wrong and does the same design each time."
The web Remodel AI fares no better on this point, by its founder's own review: roughly one generation in four has artifacts, the furniture swap is "the weakest tool in the set," and App Store reviews of its iPhone app describe asking to keep the blond wood cabinets and getting a changed ceiling and floor, or an exterior that "completely changed my house every time" and once "added mountains and a basement."
None of this is unusual. Generative models are built to change things, and a mask painted over a photo does not tell the model what the rest of the room means. Spot Edit is Idori's answer, and it is a rule rather than a tool: pin up to four exact spots, tell Idori what each should become, attach a reference photo when you need to match a specific lamp, tile, or fabric, and call out spots like @1 right in the prompt. Everything you did not pin stays exactly as photographed. That interaction is much harder to build than it looks, it has been refined with user feedback for more than half a year, and it is the reason "keep my floor" is a promise Idori can make and Remodel AI, on its users' account, cannot.
Round to Idori, decisively.
Round 3: styles
Both sides have a long style list. The App Store Remodel AI offers a menu per tool; the web Remodel AI counts thirty-plus interior styles, eleven exterior, and ten landscape. Idori ships 30+ curated styles in four families, Modern, Classic, Bold, and Cozy, and every one of them applies to any space, a bedroom or a backyard, in one tap.
The difference is not the count; it is what happens to your room when a style lands. In Remodel AI a style is a full re-render, which is why the reviews above describe windows moving. In Idori a style is applied to the space that was photographed, window and floor included, and if the result touches something you wanted kept, you Branch back one version and pin it. Five styles in five taps, then Compare them on the same photo.
Round to Idori, narrowly on breadth, clearly on control.
Round 4: prompting
Remodel AI added "new and improved custom prompting" in its August 2026 update, which tells you both that it exists and that it needed improving; the review that called it "awful" and said it "keeps getting it wrong" was written in June. A prompt on a one-shot tool is a suggestion to a re-render.
A Freeform Prompt in Idori is a brief. Name what stays, what changes, and what the room is for: "keep the sofa and the rug, swap the coffee table for a round oak one, paint the wall behind the TV deep green, add a floor lamp in the corner." Write it in Spanish, German, Arabic, or Japanese and it works the same, because Idori reads the intent rather than the English. And when the brief is about one place, you do not write around it, you pin it.
Round to Idori.
Round 5: what happens after the first result
Remodel AI's founder writes that users typically try four or five styles before picking one. In Remodel AI those four or five attempts are four or five separate images with a before/after view each. One App Store reviewer's complaint that the app now returns "three slightly differing versions of the same rendering" describes the shape of the product: outputs, not a process.
In Idori the fourth attempt knows about the first three. Each room becomes a project in one continuous Workspace, and every result is a version. Compare slides between any two on the same photo. Branch turns any earlier version into the start of a new path instead of a dead end. Version History keeps the whole tree, so the sofa you rejected in March is still there when it goes on sale in June. Apply an AI Idea, refine it with a Freeform Prompt, recolor one wall with Spot Edit: three versions, three explored decisions, nothing lost, and any of them exports in full quality for the contractor or the partner who has to agree.
Round to Idori. Remodel AI produces images. Idori keeps a design process.
Round 6: where your photos go
These are photos of the inside of your home. Idori stores projects and Version History on your device; uploaded photos and prompts are used only to complete a generation and are not retained on Idori's servers, and your content is never used to train models. Neither Remodel AI publishes a statement about photo retention on its product site, and the web Remodel AI's app listing declares that user content is collected. That may be entirely benign. You should not have to guess.
Round to Idori.
Round 7: price
The App Store Remodel AI sells by the week, with weekly plans listed from about five to ten dollars, which works out to somewhere between two hundred fifty and five hundred dollars a year if you forget to cancel, and its reviews include people who did. There is a limited free plan and a three-day trial on the annual subscription. The web Remodel AI gives three free designs, then twenty-nine dollars a month for Pro, forty-nine for Premium, and ninety-nine for Ultra.
Idori is free to download and free to start, with no card: Freeform Prompt redesigns, all 30+ curated styles, and Compare with Version History are included on a weekly credit allowance, and shared exports carry a small watermark. Idori Pro unlocks AI Ideas, Spot Edit, watermark-free exports, and a larger allowance, and credit top-ups are available to everyone. The honest framing: Remodel AI's free plan is a taste, Idori's is a working plan, and the features you would pay Idori for are the ones Remodel AI does not have at any price.
Round to Idori on the free plan; on paid plans it depends on how much you generate, so read both listings.
Where Remodel AI genuinely wins
- Android and the desktop browser. Idori runs on iPhone and iPad only. If your household is on Android, or you want to work at a desk in Chrome, Remodel AI is there and Idori is not. This is the single biggest reason to choose it.
- One-tap material tools. The App Store Remodel AI's "new flooring" and "new walls" tools are fast previews of hardwood, tile, carpet, or a paint color across the whole surface. Idori does the same with a pinned Spot Edit, which is more precise but one more step.
- Shop links. The App Store Remodel AI links to online stores for items that appear in the render. Idori does not sell you furniture.
- Virtual staging at volume. The web Remodel AI's parallel-room plans suit an agent staging many listings a week.
- Scale and momentum. Millions of installs and a content machine mean you will find Remodel AI first. That is a fact about distribution, not about your room.
Use cases where the difference matters most
A kitchen refresh where the floor and counters stay. This is the exact scenario Remodel AI reviewers describe failing, from the 2023 request to "hold" the hardwood floors to the 2025 cabinets that crashed the paintbrush. In Idori it is three pins and one prompt, shown above.
Exterior paint on one surface. A subscriber wrote that Remodel AI "can't change color of our house" without transforming everything. In Idori you pin the siding, the trim, or the front door, describe the color, and the roof, windows, and planting stay put, with every color you try becoming a version you can Compare.
Landscaping without touching the house. "Plants on our house, windows in weird places" is what happens when a mask meets a model that wants to redesign. Idori's AI landscape design keeps the house, the fence line, and the camera angle as anchors and lets you pin one bed, the slab, or the lawn.
A room that feels wrong for reasons you cannot name. Remodel AI has no move here except "try another style." Idori's AI Ideas reads the room and tells you what it sees, with reasons, before you generate anything.
Who should use which
Choose Idori when
- It is your own room, and you want it to feel right, not just look impressive
- The floor, the built-ins, the window, or the house must survive the redesign
- You know something is off but cannot name the fix
- You want to brief the app in your own words, in any language
- You will change your mind, and want every version still there
- You want photos of your home to stay on your device
Choose Remodel AI when
- You are on Android, or want to work in a desktop browser
- You want a one-tap flooring or wall-color preview across the whole surface
- You want shopping links for what appears in the render
- You are an agent staging many listings and need parallel rooms
- You are happy to re-roll until something looks right

The verdict
Remodel AI is a good demonstration of what generative AI can do to a photo of a room, and if you want that demonstration on Android or at a desk, it is the right download. But a remodel is not a demonstration. It is a set of decisions about a space you already own, most of which are decisions about what to keep, and Remodel AI's own users have spent three years asking it to keep things. Idori was built around that request from the first day: read the room, change only what is pinned, take the brief in your own words, remember every version, and leave your photos on your phone. That is why it wins this comparison, and why it wins it on the rounds that matter rather than the ones that are easy to count.

For redesigning a room you actually live in, yes. Idori reads the room and proposes five directions with the reasoning behind each, changes only the spots you pin, takes a brief in any language, and keeps every result as a version you can Compare and Branch. Remodel AI is a fast one-shot restyler: upload, pick a style, get an image. It wins if you need Android or a desktop browser, or a one-tap flooring or wall-paint preview.
Partly. The App Store Remodel AI offers a limited free plan and a 3-day trial on its annual plan, then charges by the week, month, or year, with weekly plans listed from about $5 to $10. The web Remodel AI gives three free designs, then $29 a month for Pro. Idori is free to download and free to start: Freeform Prompt redesigns, all 30+ curated styles, and Compare with Version History are included on a weekly credit allowance, with Idori Pro unlocking AI Ideas, Spot Edit, and watermark-free exports.
There are two unrelated products called Remodel AI. The App Store app by REIMAGE AI (remodelai.app) is the one with millions of downloads and a 4.7 rating. The web app at remodelai.io, whose iPhone app carries a 3.5 rating, is the one behind the many "Remodel AI vs" and "best AI app" articles. They share a name, a workflow, and the same core limitation: neither lets you pin what must stay unchanged.
Not reliably, by its own users' account. App Store reviews of both Remodel AI apps describe windows and rooflines moving, ceilings and floors changing when only the cabinets were meant to stay, and plants being added onto the house in landscaping mode. Idori's Spot Edit was built for exactly this: pin up to four spots, describe each, and everything outside the pins stays exactly as photographed. It is the only interior design app on the App Store where that preservation is a pinned guarantee rather than a hope.
Idori. It runs natively on iPhone and iPad, starts from the same kind of photo, and adds what Remodel AI does not have: AI Ideas with reasoning, pinned Spot Edits with reference photos, Freeform Prompt in any language, and a Workspace with Version History, Compare, and Branch. Projects stay on your device and uploaded photos are not retained on servers.
Yes. Both Remodel AI apps are on the App Store, and the web version runs in Safari. Idori is iPhone and iPad only, which is the honest trade-off: if you need Android or a desktop workflow, Remodel AI is available there and Idori is not.
